Protein-Packed Blueberry Smoothie

Hello, super berry! Blueberries are high in antioxidants and contain a variety of great vitamins and minerals, including Vitamin C, Vitamin K1, potassium, and manganese (an essential mineral). They are anti-inflammatory and known to lower your risk of heart disease and cancer. And, they are DELICIOUS!

This smoothie boasts just over 15g of protein too! Raw shelled hemp seeds, plant protein, and almond butter combine to pack this protein punch. If you have other sources you prefer, go ahead and substitute your favorite and let us know all about it.

We listed the ingredients in the order we added them and, added just one cup of the blueberries to begin. We blended and then, added the remaining blueberries 1/2 cup at a time. FROZEN BANANAS are important here, I promise. Please do not use a fresh banana, you will be disappointed. Once frozen, bananas become a sweet and creamy treat and sometimes the base for “ice cream”. If you like your smoothie less or more thick, adjust the blueberries or chocolate almond milk just a bit.

Any remaining smoothie not enjoyed immediately can be tossed into an ice cube tray and frozen to add to future smoothies. Or, pour into a popsicle mold and enjoy an afternoon treat one day soon!

  • 1 large (or 2 smaller) FROZEN bananas

  • 1 Tablespoon hemp seed**

  • 1/2 teaspoon maple syrup (optional)****

  • abundant love

Directions

  • Toss all these delightful ingredients into a high-speed blender and mix until perfectly smooth.
  • Pour into your favorite glass and enjoy!

Notes

  • * We love chocolate and the taste is subtle in this smoothie.  Feel free to substitute your favorite non-dairy milk if you’d like.  And, if you only have sweetened chocolate nut milk, that works too, you may choose to skip the maple syrup.  If you don’t have chocolate almond milk on hand, you may toss in a scoop of cocoa powder with your favorite plant-based milk!
  • ** Hemp seed powder and protein powder can be omitted if you prefer.  We use LIVfit Plant Protein powder.  Or, you can substitute your favorite supplemental powder.
  • *** Roasted almond butter or another nut butter of your choice will substitute well here also.
  • **** Maple syrup…personal preference on how sweet you like your smoothie, so give it a taste before adding and then, add more or less as you wish.
